My Paw-fect Dog Spots
As a local pup who's sniffed out the best spots in the Bay Area, I'm excited to share my favorite dog-friendly destinations. Here's where you can have a tail-wagging good time:
MARIN COUNTY
🐾 Stinson Beach This is my happy place! A 3.5-mile stretch of sandy paradise allows dogs in the northern end (past the main lifeguard tower) Great for long walks, but watch out for weekend crowds and limited parking, especially in the summer. Dogs are not allowed in the National Park Service portion so look for the sign.
🐾 Rodeo Beach, Sausalito
Wide sandy beach with off-leash areas and beautiful coastal views. Perfect for water-loving dogs and plenty of space to run. Don't miss the nearby Marin Headlands trails!
🐾 Mill Valley Dog Park
A spacious dog park with a view! The grassy expanse is easy on paws, and there's plenty of shade. And there are water bowls that mysteriously get filled throughout the day.
🐾 Muir Beach
Less crowded than Stinson Beach, with calm waters and plenty of space. Great for morning walks and meeting other friendly pups.
SAN FRANCISCO
🐾 Fort Funston
The ultimate dog paradise! Off-leash beach and trails with stunning ocean views. Watch for hang gliders overhead - they're fun to chase (with my eyes only, of course). Make sure your stewards are in shape, there are some major climbs!
🐾 Crissy Field
Classic SF spot with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Great walking path, beach access, and plenty of dogs to meet. Plus, human treats at the Warming Hut! Bonus with plenty of parking spots.
🐾 Duboce Park
Perfect urban park for city pups. Clean, well-maintained, and friendly regular crowd. Close to great dog-friendly cafes like Duboce Park Cafe.
SONOMA COUNTY
🐾 Doran Regional Beach
Long, scenic beach perfect for long walks. Clean, dog-friendly, and usually not too crowded.
🐾 Spring Lake Regional Park
Miles of trails around the lake, with a designated swimming area for dogs. Great spot for a full day of adventures!
🐾 Dog-Friendly Wineries
- Larson Family Winery: Spacious outdoor area with friendly staff
- Gundlach Bundschu: Beautiful grounds and welcome pups
- Lambert Bridge: Treats for both humans and dogs!
PRO TIPS:
- Always check current leash rules before visiting
- Pack water and portable bowls
- Bring waste bags (even if facilities provide them)
- Check tide schedules for beach visits
- Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak crowds
Remember, a tired dog is a happy dog! These spots will definitely help achieve that goal.
Wags and licks,
Gypsie 🐾
